When Allan Montague arrives in New York, he is swept into the lifestyle of the fashionable. They know him through his father who was a General in the war. The longer he stays in New York, the more he realizes that there is a huge disparity between the classes. When an injustice befalls the poor, Allan is the first to fight for what is right. But as he continues his lawsuit, he begins to realize that the very people he's fighting with are the very people who rule New York. Upton Sinclair Jr. (September 20, 1878 - November 25, 1968) was an American writer who wrote nearly one hundred books and other works in several genres. Sinclair's work was well known and popular in the first half of the twentieth century, and he won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1943.
