Joe Dunthorne was born in Wales. He studied his BA and an MA in Creative Writing at UEA. During the last year of his BA, Dunthorne began writing his first novel, Submarine (2008). This went on to become a highly successful feature film of the same name and has been translated into 12 languages. In 2010 his pamphlet of poems was published in the Faber New Poets series. His second novel, Wild Abandon (2011), won the Encore Prize for Best Second Novel of 2011. His third novel, The Adulterants, is out now. Apart from his fiction, Dunthorne has written occasional articles for the Guardian, Observer, The New York Times and Independent. He lives in London.
